1. Vintage Inspired Rugs
Choose a vintage style rug that has a neutral base but soft, subtle color. Or opt for only grays, whites and beiges! You can’t go wrong wither either of those, especially since they now make affordable washable rugs you can just pop in the washing machine. Opt for a 2×6 or 2×8, whichever fills your space best.

2. Staging Open Shelving
If you have open shelving in your kitchen (you lucky duck!) then take advantage and put all of the pretty things on it. Open shelving tends to get dusty, so keep that in mind when choosing decor. Use ceramic bowls, plates or glass cups that you’ll use daily, and add draping greenery, framed vintage art, or ceramic jugs and vases! This is a space to have fun with and get creative.
3. Pretty Storage Solutions
Storage doesn’t have to be boring! Choose storage options with natural materials like glass, stone, ceramic, wood and woven rattan or wicker. You can use natural wooden bowls to hold fruit and decorative canisters to hold pantry essentials like flour and sugar.
4. Vintage Inspired Art
Vintage Inspired art is very trendy at the moment but I think it’s safe to say that an oil painting of a countryside or nature will always be timeless. A thrift store can be your best friend for these, look for soaring fields and landscapes or other natural elements like fruit or flowers.

4. Wood Framed Classical Cottage Scenery Painting
5. Practical Countertop Decor
Like storage, your counters don’t need to hold only practical items. Let’s make the space beautiful without adding clutter! Add natural elements in different forms like a small stone mortar and pestle, ceramic crock with wooden utensils (leave the silicone and plastic for the utensil drawer), and a wooden recipe box. Don’t underestimate using cookbooks for modern cottage style kitchen decor either, use a pretty cookbook on a cookbook stand to add interest as well.

8. Large Ceramic Utensil Crock (this one rotates!)
6. Neutral Textiles
When choosing fabrics I always opt for neutrals. This way they go with everything and I don’t have to worry about them clashing with anything like the rug. Otherwise, if you would like then this is where you can add subtle pops of color or rotate them out seasonally as you follow your whimsy.
7. Add Greenery
I’m a huge fan of incorporating greenery in a space, even if it’s faux and not real. Manufacturers have really come a long way in the faux greenery and you can find some that look very real. Look for greenery that is potted with a natural element for the pot (are you seeing a trend here?).

8. Use Scents to Create Cozy
When decorating we want to use different types of decor to invoke each sense. Smell is definitely important, don’t underestimate it. For non-toxic options you can do a simmer pot on the stove or you can use beeswax or coconut wax candles with essential oils. Both of the candles below are made in the USA!
